MV Ortelius is an ice-strengthened expedition vessel built in 1989 in Gdynia, Poland. Classified to UL1 (1A-equivalent) ice class, her reinforced hull and ZL 40/48 Sulzer engines allow safe navigation through solid one-year ice and loosely packed multi-year floes. The ship accommodates up to 108 guests, supported by a crew of 20, a 19-member hotel staff, a seven-member expedition team, and an onboard doctor. All cabins are outward-facing with private facilities, many featuring windows or portholes that frame polar vistas.
